Research - Arnulf Rainer

Arnulf Rainer was a printmaker, photographer and painter.   Some of the work I have looked at relates to the human body like the image below titled No Daphne, No.   Clearly the shape of a head with marks on top to represent hair and the inside of the head with leaevs and stems of flowers representing the veins and arteries perhaps.
‘No, Daphne, No!’

The piece to the far right is originally a photograph on which he used mixed media
He was a surrealist to begin with, hence his work was about the subconscious mind and dreams.  He later tried to distance himself from this by creating art including Blind Painting where he painted with his eyes closed.   Some of his work appears to be reworked i.e. he would draw things or photograph them and then a while later work over them in maybe paint.
