It's 11.30 pm and I've just pinned together my draft wall hanging following a mass screen print and heat transfer session on Friday. I started off by measuring my fabric for the base which was a metre long by 3ft 6. I pinned a hem all around so the actual canvas is 3ft x 3ft exactly leaving at minimum of 2.5 inches to allow me to frame it. Everything is just pinned at the moment and my next step is to get some feedback from a couple of friends tomorrow and then on Monday, my fellow students. I am happy with the way i have put it together though and that's mamouth ! I have had so much self doubt it's untrue but I'm pleased with the way i've put it together.
I looked at my original mind map and one of the ideas I had on there was to do a room so despite my doubts after sharing my room idea last week with tutors, I am going ahead with it. I have just loosely hung hte net curtain and curtain to get an idea of how it looks but am too tired to do more with it tonight so I'll save it for tomorrow.
I have taken pictures of what i've done tonight as below. I have to think of the best way(s) to put text on my "heads" on the canvas. Screen printing it out of the question given my experience Friday where I got a bit messy, ended up cutting two wide curtains down to just one as I kept getting ink where it wasn't supposed to be or it was faint. It's all experience and I know for next time what to avoid which is getting ink everywhere i.e the table, the apron, my hands and then getting all this onto the fabric in unwated places. Also screen printing for the small amounts of text I want to produce isn't a good use of tutor's time in preparing the screens as there could be another 6 or 7. That said, I will see what feedback I receive. I am conscious that I haven't got many photographs and I am concerned because I have specialised in photography. That said, it was suggested that I go down the textile route for my subject but I feel I need to produce at least one good photograph. I have done a couple of photographs already so I will see......
